Creating a Two Tone Kitchen

Can’t decide between classic or colour? Wanting something different to an all white kitchen?

With a two-tone kitchen, you get the best of both worlds. There are so many ways to introduce contrasting or tonal colours to your kitchen space.

Here are our best tips for mixing tones to create a trendy yet timeless look.

Cabinetry

Using contrasting cabinetry is one of the most popular methods of creating a two tone kitchen.

If you have a larger L-shaped kitchen, different tones on each side can look sharp and intentional, like in this contrasting Black & White Delight kitchen. For a galley kitchen layout, you can use different shades for the upper cabinets and lower cabinets, like in this Glorious Green kitchen.

It’s all about creating an even balance.

Another benefit to a two-tone kitchen is using a more cost effective finish like a plain coloured laminate paired with a decorative finish like a timber grain laminate or a profile in our Form range. This can be helpful when looking for areas to cut back on some of the costs of your kitchen renovation.

Benchtops

Benchtops are a more subtle way of adding another tone to your kitchen colour palette as they are typically neutral in colour instead offering a textural contrast.

The warmth of a timber grain, the unique patterning in a natural quartz or the industrial vibe of a concrete-look material can create a harmonious blend of tones.

In this Illuminated Elegance kitchen, a warm brown-grey marble benchtop and splashback breaks up the runs of clean white cabinetry.

Island

Leaving colour to the island is a great way to add depth whilst keeping the rest of the kitchen white to reflect light, like in this Classic Hamptons kitchen. Using a timeless colour like a soft warm grey in the kitchen can add interest and personality without straying too far from a classic design.

Coloured islands also work well in L-shaped kitchen layouts like this Traditional Twist kitchen. The rich navy blue that matches the splashback tile is just enough colour to keep the space feeling bright and fresh.
