Hamptons Kitchen Style
The Hamptons style kitchen – a favourite interior style across Australia, and a favourite of ours at Farquhar. It’s bright, light, fresh, elegant and decorative.
Inspired by the historic charm of the iconic vacation spot frequented by New York’s elites, the Hamptons bring to mind colonial homes that exude luxury with grand facades clad in white, an abundance of gable windows and manicured grounds.
Inside, the kitchens are nothing short of character, hallmarked by the famed Shaker profile, bright whites that give a light and airy feel, blue hues as a nod to the nearby sea, and complete with elegant touches of decor.
How to get the Hamptons look:
Cabinetry
Cabinetry is the pièce de résistance of any Hamptons style kitchen.
Keep it traditional, incorporating a thicker shaker rail on doors or panels, or move to modern with a thinner rail version. Our Barossa door profile is a modern take on the classic Shaker shape with a simple square indent, and our most popular cabinetry profile.
Carry the panelling detail across the fronts of end panels and islands for a detailed, unified look.
Upscale your upper cabinetry by adding glass inserts to showcase your most loved glassware and china.
Design in all white, or include tonal greys for added warmth.
Splashback
For a traditional look, a tiled splashback perfectly complements the detailed design of a Hamptons space.
Use a subway, herringbone, or mosaic tile for texture and movement in a matching white, or neutral blue or grey tone. Choose light and bright to keep the space looking fresh.
If you’re after a more modern look, continue to run stone up from the benchtop.
Sink & Tap
The Hamptons sink is all about depth and size – often a butlers or farmhouse style.
A single undermount bowl, creating a feature in the run of the benchtop. Go traditional with a ceramic bowl, or modern with a touch of contrast – like the Santorini white farmhouse undermount sink from Oliveri.
Handles
The handles in a Hamptons kitchen have a great impact. They add colour, texture, and detail to tie the overall look together.
Traditional styles focus on cup pulls and small simple round knobs in brushed nickel and brass.
More recently, modern Hamptons designs have incorporated black with solid, almost industrial features in pulls and T-bars for a distinctive edge.
Appliances
There are two main features when it comes to appliances in Hamptons style kitchens.
The first is integration. Nowadays there is a huge range of integrated appliances, allowing you to hide everyday items like your fridge and dishwasher behind your detailed Hamptons cabinetry.
The second is a freestanding cooker. With a great range available, from the more traditional style to sleek and modern, there is the perfect cooker to complete your design.
Lighting
Don’t be afraid to be big or detailed – as long as it fits with your overall style, it will look great and add a touch of your personal style.
Here’s where you can contrast your simply elegant cabinetry with a bold statement, and make a feature out of your main lighting with captivating pendants over the island.
