The Hamptons style kitchen – a favourite interior style across Australia, and a favourite of ours at Farquhar.

Bright | Light | Fresh | Neutral | Elegant | Decorative

With its signature shaker profile paneling and palette of soft neutrals, a Hamptons kitchen can be traditional or with an added modern touch.

What are the main elements of the Hamptons style kitchen?

Cabinetry

The cabinetry in your Hamptons style kitchen will take centre stage.

Design in all white, or include tonal greys for added warmth.

Keep it traditional, incorporating a thicker shaker rail on doors or panels, or move to modern with a thinner rail version.

Carry the paneling detail across the fronts of end panels and islands for a detailed, unified look.

Splashback

For a traditional look, a tiled splashback perfectly compliments the detailed design of a Hamptons space.

Use a subway, herringbone, or mosaic tile for texture and movement, in a matching white or neutral blue or grey tone. Choose light and bright to keep the space looking fresh.

If you’re after a more modern look, continue to run stone up from the benchtop.

Sink

The Hamptons sink is all about depth and size – often a butlers or farmhouse style. A single undermount bowl, creating a feature in the run of benchtop.

Go traditional with a ceramic bowl, or modern with a touch of contrast – like the Santorini black farmhouse undermount sink from Oliveri below.

Handles

The handles in a Hamptons kitchen have great impact. They add colour, texture, and detail.

Traditional styles focus on cup pulls and small simple round knobs in brushed nickel and brass.

More recently, modern Hamptons designs have incorporated black with solid, almost industrial features in pulls and T-bars.

Appliances

There’s two main features when it comes to appliances in Hamptons style kitchens.

The first, is integration. Nowadays there is a huge range of integrated appliances, allowing you to hide everyday items like your fridge and dishwasher behind your detailed Hamptons cabinetry.

The second, is a cooker. With a great range available, from the mode traditional style to modern with colour, there is the perfect cooker to complete your design.

Lighting

Go bold, and make a feature our of your main lighting. Whether you’re more modern or traditional, pendants over the island will always look fantastic.

Don’t be afraid to be big or detailed – as long as it fits with your overall style, it will look great and create a feature.

Seating & Styling

Incorporate island or breakfast bar seating into the design. No only practical, but also a great place to add soft texture and colour with covered stools.

Showcase your beautiful items – pot plants, ceramics, fruit bowls, anything that makes you smile.

Hamptons is all about detail and texture. Don’t be afraid to add your own personal touch to make the space your own.
