As part of an open plan room including dining, lounge, and entrance, this kitchen needed to blend and flow with the overall space. The result is a well balanced and functional kitchen, perfectly suited to its apartment surroundings.

As part of an open plan room including dining, lounge, and entrance, this kitchen needed to blend and flow with the overall space. The result is a well balanced and functional kitchen, perfectly suited to its apartment surroundings.
The Design
The owner explains, ‘I didn’t want it to look like a kitchen. I wanted the island to be part of the everyday living experience.’ By placing the sink and cooktop along the back run, the island translates to a piece of furniture in the space.
The Island
At one end is room for seating on three sides; perfect for entertaining friends and family while enjoying the glorious ocean views opposite. While at the other end, storage on both sides. The island design contrasts from a soft and subtle curve detail on one end, to the waterfall at the other.
The Splashback
Designed as a feature, the splashback illuminates the space, created by two runs of polished quartz stone placed one on top of the other, and fitted with LED strip lighting. The design adds detail and warmth, by highlighting the delicate mix of light brown and misty grey that interlace together.
The Function
‘Clean lines were really important to me’ explains the owner, which was achieved by the use of integrated fridges, an integrated dishwasher, and inner drawers, while also adding function and storage to a small footprint. ‘There is so much practical and sensible storage’ they explain.
