This kitchen renovation, in the 1900s home of Rachel, Mike, and son Alby, is inspired by Rachel’s American heritage, who was born and raised in Massachusetts.
Project Profile
As part of an open plan kitchen/living/dining area, the kitchen design needed to be compact, without compromising on function or bench space. The solution was an L-shaped kitchen with an island, and American farmhouse style features.

Farmhouse Features
The large statement gas cooker, farmhouse sink and double tap in bronze, and feature bronze handles pay homage to Rachel’s American heritage. The design uses a soft, light palette across cabinetry, stone benchtops, and tile splashback, allowing these American style features to create focal points and contrast.
White Grey Cabinetry
The inspiration for the cabinetry in White Grey Suedette Matte in a Kiev 20 profile came from another recent Farquhar project. Rachel explains, ‘I loved it after seeing it in the last magazine. It feels soft and inviting, with the delicate contrast against the walls. It’s the perfect neutral.’
Appliance Nook
A key inclusion in the design is the appliance nook – a tall bifold cabinet with a feature Charleston Oak internal that sits conveniently at the end of the back benchtop run. ‘We knew we wanted to hide the appliances, and the appliance cupboard cleverly achieves that. It keeps everything nice and tidy,’ says Rachel.
"The Farquhar showroom really allows you to bring your colour palette to life."
