Black & White

Black and white kitchen design creates a striking contrast that is both timeless and bold, with the crispness of white complemented by the dramatic depth of black.

This high-contrast color scheme is often balanced with sleek, modern finishes, such as black cabinetry with white benchtops or vice versa, to achieve a clean, sophisticated look. The design allows for versatility in styling, whether through minimalist lines, industrial touches, or classic elements, making it suitable for a variety of tastes.

Colourful

Do you find the style you lean towards is one full of colour, cheer and in some cases, maximalism?

This is a fun way to inject your personality into your home, and dream kitchen! While it may be tempting to choose brightness everywhere, we recommend choosing a base colour and having accents that complement the space. Using a pop of colour in the cabinetry or even minimally as a tri-tone design is a great way of achieving a colourful look without locking yourself into one scheme.

Organic

Organic kitchen design emphasises natural materials and earthy textures to create a warm, sustainable environment.

Wood, stone, and raw metals are often used for cabinetry, benchtops, and flooring, while soft, neutral colors evoke a sense of calm and connection to nature. This style prioritises sustainability and simplicity, often incorporating elements like open shelving, plants, and lots of natural light.

The ‘Work Triangle’

The ever-so talked about work triangle! You may have heard of it in your research, so we’ll unpack it for you here. Kitchens are a workspace, so it’s important that when designing, the kitchen design is made for the space to work.

The ‘work triangle’ is a fundamental concept in kitchen design that refers to the efficient arrangement of the three primary work areas in a kitchen: the oven or cooktop, sink, and fridge. These three elements form the points of a triangle when connected with imaginary lines, hence the term ‘work triangle’. The work triangle is designed to minimise the distance and optimise the workflow between these key areas, facilitating smooth and efficient meal preparation.

The goal of the work triangle is to minimise the total distance travelled between the oven, sink, and refrigerator while preparing meals, thereby reducing unnecessary steps and optimising efficiency in the kitchen. This ensures that the cook can move freely between the work areas without feeling cramped or having to navigate around obstacles.

Our experienced Farquhar designers carefully plan the layout of the kitchen and positioning the oven, sink, and refrigerator in relation to each other, to create a functional and ergonomic workspace that maximises efficiency and enhances the overall cooking experience.
