Project Profile
Sally and Michael had an idea of what they wanted in their kitchen renovation, which was to redesign the space to be open and family friendly.

Sally and Michael had an idea of what they wanted in their kitchen renovation, which was to redesign the space to be open and family friendly.
The Design
The design includes a great deal of bench space, and plenty of room to move around, which as frequent entertainers, was a must. The island is a feature, with the family spending a lot of time there. It’s where the kids have their breakfast, do their homework, and the occasional quick dinner.
The Palette
Navy blue features were a must have. Rather than doing the entire kitchen in navy cabinetry, the colour was left to the island to keep the cabinetry along the walls light and fresh. The contrast in colour and finish works smoothly, and Sally credits her Farquhar designer with the idea. ‘It makes the island look like a piece of furniture – it looks separate from the kitchen itself’, she says.
Surprisingly, it was the navy cabinetry that came before the feature tiles which were originally planned as white subway tiles. Sally later stumbled upon the exact shade of navy in the statement pattern which was the perfect traditional fit.
The Materials
With a young family and being a self-confessed ‘out there, messy cook’, Sally knew that the materials they used had to be durable. ‘I didn’t want to be obsessing about tiny little chips’ she says. The couple went with Farquhar’s Form Matte range and stone benchtops for that reason.
The kitchen is drenched in natural light, adding to the warm and relaxed style - a perfect family space.
